TAKING THE NEXT REMAKE STEP

I've been on a remake path for the last five years. I've learned the most important thing to know in our journey is that we’ll only get to where we want to go by doing the hard stuff first. That may be no surprise to you, but perhaps it's time to face reality.

A remake is a path, not a destination. Each season, decade, or major change in our lives opens our eyes to what brings us joy. It's an opportunity to reevaluate whether our work, relationships, and well-being are moving toward deeper meaning and purpose.

Mistakes I have made are where I like to begin. I first own it, regret it, and then figure out how to do it better. We all want to jump to the next thing before doing the difficult stuff. I'm the queen of moving from one project to another before ensuring I understand all parts of what I'm doing. Being this way lacks integrity. We miss the importance of devotion to the project and, most importantly, the celebration of our efforts.

First, ask yourself a critical question: What is currently giving you fear or anxiety? After you've answered that question, what is the fear or anxiety hiding behind your answer? It's the REAL ONE we avoid. We miss a critical step in our remake journey when we avoid or overlook the real mucky stuff. We all want to jump to joy, but we must do the hard things first. For example, it might look like dissolving a relationship, hanging on with no real future, or making changes with financial scarcity.

Each of these steps is critical to the flow of our journey. We stay inside of suffering if we don't deal with them.

Our remakes are little many Dharmas. In yoga, Dharma is considered our life's purpose. We often think our purpose is something we seek, but it’s always been there. The work isn’t to seek it's to remove the disruptions that we’ve created for ourselves both internal and external. Imagine you are driving in your car, and suddenly, the traffic and buildings disappear one at a time, and vast open space stretches beyond the eye. All you see is earth. Now, think about the mind and how open it is now. We remove the noise to hear the whisper.

Our Dharma is our true essence. Each new season, decade, or sudden change in our lives is a time to take another step. The beauty is that it gets easier each time—even the unexpected curve balls. The most important thing I encourage is to take reflection time and then take action. Without reflection time, the busyness of life can cause us to miss the very things that bring us deeper meaning and purpose.

I invite you to join me in Abiquiu, New Mexico, from September 1 to 7, 2024, for the next Women on the Remake Retreat. Come to New Mexico, and you'll come to learn more about yourself and your next steps on your remake journey.
